Halloween’s Zombie Apocalypse
Of late there is much attention focused on Zombies and their impending destruction of the world. Hornady in particular came up with a line of ammunition and reloading components targeted specifically at Zombie extermination. One can find an almost unlimited list of Zombie related supplies from clothing, ammo cans by Plano, to Airsoft products and BB guns from Crosman and Beeman.
As anyone would know, from viewing the myriad Zombie movies and the TV series like The Walking Dead, the only way to “kill” a Zombie is to destroy its brain, i.e. a head shot. Total destruction of a brain takes a specific type of projectile. Full metal jacket (FMJ) projectiles do not expand, making a caliber size hole and generally achieve 100% (or near 100%) penetration of the target. While a head shot with a FMJ projectile is deadly under normal circumstances, it is not necessarily so with Zombies, remember complete destruction of the brain is desired. To achieve complete destruction a lightly constructed hollow point or polymer tipped projectiles that strike with explosive effect is required; actually something very similar to projectiles favored for varmint hunting. Enter Hornady’s green polymer tipped Zombie ammo in various calibers and even “special” shotgun shells loaded with Zombie eliminating OO buck shot.
With Halloween fast approaching we all must prepare for the eminent Zombie invasion. My own favored weapon for Zombie elimination is a Rock River ATH (Advanced Tactical Hunter) AR 15, several 30 round magazines charged with 55 grain Hornady green tipped .223 Zombie ammo for long range work, and I’m pulling the magazine plug on my Browning A5 12 gauge shotgun and loading 5 rounds of the special Zombie shotgun shells for closer range situations. For close up zombie engagement, I have my Kimber 1911 Gold Match loaded with appropriate Zombie ammo.
Leave some comments below on how you have prepared for the coming Zombie Apocalypse. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Happy Halloween and Good Zombie Hunting!!!
